This unit covers all the aspects of general first aid and first aid in the workplace as well as providing additional training in anaphylaxis and asthma specific for the childcare industry as per  ACECQA 

This unit is specifically designed for those actively working in the childcare industry

Fitness to participate – students must be able to perform 2 minutes of unassisted CPR on the floor

?Description
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty and applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Many practical exercises are included as part of the training.

?Content

This training course involves the completion of an online theoretical assessment and practical assessment during the training session.

The following items are covered during the training:

• anaphylaxis
• asthma
• CPR techniques on adults, children and infants
• incident reporting
• how to properly assess an emergency situation
• DRSABCD
• using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• first aid procedures for bleeding, burns and fractures
• managing medical conditions such as epilepsy, anaphylaxis and asthma
• managing medical emergencies such as snake/spider bites, poisons and choking
• infection control procedures
• managing exposure to extreme temperatures
• administering  first aid for eye & soft tissue injuries
• assessing and moving sick & injured
• legal responsibilities of a first aider
• basic anatomy
• managing shock
• additional training in childcare specific aspects of first aid

?Assessment
Assessment of this course is through online theory and practical assessment including the observation of students carrying out a range of scenarios. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.

Note- students must be able to perform 2 minutes of unassisted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
