What is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that recognises the skills and knowledge you have already gained through work, life experience and formal or informal education.
RPL lets you move straight to having your competencies assessed, avoiding unnecessary training and its cost, time and effort. The process assesses valid, authentic, current and sufficient evidence of your knowledge and practical skills.

Who RPL may suit
People with relevant experience in aged care, disability or community services work, paid or volunteer, who can provide evidence of current skills. Work experience alone does not prove competency: it must be shown through evidence and assessment.
RPL is not credit transfer
Credit transfer recognises identical or equivalent units you have already completed in a previous qualification, based on your certificate or transcript. RPL assesses skills and knowledge you gained through work, life or informal learning.
RPL and government funding
RPL fees are separate from Queensland subsidised training. A government subsidy does not apply to a unit you have already been assessed as competent in, so a qualification completed entirely through RPL is charged as a fee-for-service assessment.

Indirect evidence
Position descriptions, reports, previous qualifications, certificates, resumes and documented work history.
Supplementary evidence
Written or oral questions, tests, supervisor references and other third-party verification.
