About Equinox College

Our story

Equinox College began with a simple idea: that vocational education should genuinely change what people are able to do with their lives.

From the beginning, our focus has been on practical training, real employment outcomes and creating opportunities for people who may not always have had a straightforward pathway into education or care and support work.

What started as a training organisation has gradually grown into something much broader. Over the years, Equinox College has worked with students, employers and communities across Australia and the Pacific, particularly in the aged care, disability, mental health and community services sectors.

That experience has shaped the organisation we are today. We have seen first-hand that completing a qualification is only one part of the story. A certificate means very little if a student does not have the confidence, practical capability and opportunity to use it.

Today, I see our role as one to help people build real skills, confidence and opportunities that can lead to meaningful employment and stronger careers, while also helping employers develop capable, work-ready teams.

I believe vocational education should be practical, accessible and connected to the real world. Training should prepare people for what actually happens in the workplace — not simply help them complete a qualification.

That thinking shapes the way we design and deliver our programs. We work with students at very different stages of their journey.

Some are entering the care and community services sectors for the first time. Others have spent years working in the industry and are looking to have their existing skills formally recognised. Others are experienced professionals looking to progress into leadership, management or more specialised roles.

Wherever somebody begins, our focus is on helping them move forward.

We also work closely with employers, community organisations and industry partners because good training cannot exist in isolation from the workplace.

Our programs need to reflect the reality of the sectors we serve, the expectations of employers and, most importantly, the needs of the people receiving care and support.

Our work has also taken us beyond Australia. Through our involvement across the Pacific, we have seen the impact that education can have not only on an individual student, but on their family, their community and their future opportunities.

Those experiences have reinforced something we have believed from the beginning: education works best when there is a clear pathway attached to it.

That pathway might lead to employment. It might lead to further study. It might recognise years of experience that have never previously been acknowledged. Or it might give somebody the confidence to pursue an opportunity they had never previously considered possible.

Equinox College has changed considerably since it began.

Our programs have grown. Our reach has expanded. The technology we use has changed because the way people learn has changed.

But the reason we do it has remained consistent.

Education should create opportunity.

For the student, that might mean their first job, a new career or recognition for skills they have spent years developing.

For an employer, it means having people with the knowledge, confidence and practical capability to do their job well.

And for the wider community, it means developing a stronger and more capable workforce in sectors that genuinely matter.

That is what Equinox College was built to do. And it is still what drives us today.
